Advanced Choir

COVID-19 Update

For the 2020-2021 season, rehearsals and concerts may be canceled due to restrictions surrounding the Coronavirus.  As a result, the start date of our semesters might be modified.  It is possible that entire semesters might be canceled too.  Our priority is to keep children and families safe and healthy during this pandemic.  Choir parents will be notified in the event of any date changes or cancellations.

Our Fall 2020 Semester and our Spring 2021 Semester haves been canceled.  We are hopeful to resume rehearsals in July for our Fall 2021 Semester.

Advanced Choir is for older students who enjoy singing.  The kids in Advanced Choir are between 7th grade and 12th grade.

Harmony and Sight-Singing

Older students create music to the ears, as they sing in two and three part harmony.  Advanced Choir singers often smile, as they hear and enjoy the beautiful sounds that they create.  Additionally, students continue the adventure of reading and interpreting choral music.  Advanced singers get the chance to show-off their sight-singing skills, while learning new music.

Ugly Singing Builds Technique

Not only will sight-singing be taught, but students get the freedom to learn choral technique in entertaining ways.  Advanced Choir singers love ugly singing.  For example, students get the opportunity to sing terribly.  This often includes twisting vowel sounds, mashing lyric pronunciation, and singing in a high pitched mousy squeak.  Next the kids sing properly.  The contrast between the two, helps students fine-tune their listening skills to easily hear and fix mistakes.  This is one of many fun techniques used by the Vail Youth Voices artistic director to build choral technique.

Advanced Choir members have the opportunity to sing for two semesters in each school year.  At the end of each semester, Beginning Choir students get to show off their new musical prowess by performing in an exciting concert.

Coupled within the semesters, singers have the benefit of attending weekly rehearsals.

Holidays and Breaks

Many parents enjoy vacation with their families over school breaks.  For this reason, Advanced Choir will observe the same holiday and break schedule as the Vail School District elementary school calendar.

Mark Your Calendars

Both rehearsals and concerts are exciting events in the life of Advanced Choir students.  Therefore, it is super important to add rehearsal and concert dates to your calendars in advance.  Additionally, having all students attend every rehearsal and concerts helps the kids put on the best concert possible.  Choir is a team!  We succeed when everyone contributes.
